Several families across three villages—Obwiho, Rwentaka, and Nyabwina, all within Bumbaire Subcounty in Bushenyi District—are facing starvation after a hailstorm ravaged their plantations, gardens, and houses.
The hailstorm, which was preceded by a heavy downpour lasting three hours, destroyed coffee, banana, and cassava plantations, as well as bean seedlings. Residents were left counting their losses, struggling to come to terms with the extent of the damage.
Kyompaire Evas, a resident of Rwentaka Village, said the heavy downpour on Monday, March 3, 2025, devastated numerous gardens and plantations, raising concerns about a potential food crisis in the near future.
"It rained heavily for three hours, and the hailstorm that followed was intense," Kyompaire said.

Bakunda Saverino, the LC1 Chairperson, appealed to the government to provide food relief and seedlings to the affected communities.
"Many of our people are struggling to afford food, as they had spent all their money on school fees for their children. We urgently need assistance to help them recover from this disaster," Bakunda said.
