Bushenyi – Taxi drivers and conductors in Bushenyi District have been urged to diversify their income streams beyond driving to improve their financial stability and overall well-being. Speaking at the annual general meeting of the Bushenyi District Taxi Drivers and Owners Cooperatives Union, held at Ishaka Taxi Park in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, Aaron Ikiriza, the Chairman of the Southwestern Taxi Drivers and Owners Association, emphasized the importance of financial diversification.

Ikiriza encouraged drivers to engage in alternative income-generating projects, noting that relying solely on taxi operations may not guarantee financial security in the long run. He also highlighted the need for drivers to change the public perception of their profession by conducting themselves responsibly and professionally.

Arthur Behekaniira, the Chairman of the Bushenyi Taxi Operators and Owners Cooperatives Union, echoed similar sentiments, urging drivers and other road users to work together in ensuring safe and efficient transportation services within the district. Meanwhile, Emmy Ngabirano, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Bushenyi, called on taxi operators to take advantage of government programs aimed at poverty alleviation. He encouraged them to form savings groups and invest in businesses that can supplement their income.

The call for financial diversification comes as many taxi operators face economic challenges due to fluctuating fuel prices, stiff competition, and increasing operational costs.
