A Ugandan businessman has been remanded to Luzira Prison over charges of obtaining money by false pretense and conspiracy to defraud a foreign investor in a bogus gold deal.
Kizito Dalton Lawrence appeared before the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Grade One Magistrates’ Court on charges stemming from a joint investigation by the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU).

Prosecution alleges that between February and June 2024, Kizito and others still at large conned an American investor out of USD 105,000. The suspects reportedly convinced the victim that they would supply 20 kilograms of pure gold, a promise they never fulfilled.

The court heard that the accused acted with intent to defraud, knowingly providing false information and fabricating documents to gain the investor’s trust. Kizito denied the charges, but the presiding magistrate remanded him until July 9, 2025, pending further investigations and possible trial.

The State House Anti-Corruption Unit confirmed the development via its official social media handle, emphasizing ongoing efforts to crack down on financial and investment fraud schemes targeting both local and international victims. Authorities have pledged to intensify the hunt for Kizito’s alleged accomplices, who remain at large.
