Police in Bushenyi District have arrested 60 people in connection with a series of aggravated robbery incidents that occurred in Katungu Cell, Ibaare, and Bwegiragye in Ishaka Division during the night of October 9, 2025.
According to a statement issued by police, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted between October 10 and 12, 2025.
The operation led to the arrest of 56 men and four women suspected to have participated in or aided the robberies. The Greater Bushenyi subregion acting police spokesperson, Sp. Apollo Tayebwa, said the suspects hail from Kizinda, Ishaka Division, Butare-Kyamuhunga, and neighboring areas within the district.
"They are currently undergoing screening and further investigation," the PRO said, adding that police are working closely with local leaders and sister security agencies to identify those who will be implicated by evidence.

The robberies, which took place simultaneously in the three areas, left residents in fear as thugs reportedly attacked homes and stole valuables.
However, police have since intensified patrols and community engagements to restore calm.
"We want to assure the victims, their families, and the general public that those found culpable will be charged in a court of law," the police statement read in part. "We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the public and will continue to take all necessary measures to bring the perpetrators to justice."
Police also urged residents to stay calm, remain vigilant, and report any suspicious individuals, activities, or objects to nearby police stations.
In a clarification, police dismissed claims that the arrests were politically motivated. "We are purely investigating criminality in this matter. There is no political influence detected yet," the statement emphasized.
Authorities have commended members of the public for their continued cooperation and pledged to keep them informed of further developments in the investigation.
