More Than 90% of students who sat for their UACE last year will qualify for admissions at the university and other tertiary institutions, according to UNEB executive secretary Dan Odongo.

While releasing last year’s UACE results this morning, Odong said in cases where one principal and two subsidiary passes are considered for admission, 90.7% of candidates will be considered for admission.

According to UNEB 80,643 of the 2023 candidates meet the requirement of two principal level passes for admission to the university compared to 67,815 in 2022 examinations.

110,553 candidates registered and sat for last year’s UACE examinations in 2,102 centers across the Country translating to an increase of 12,663 candidates in the previous year.

According to Odongo, this indicates that a very high percentage of 99.1% qualify for the award of UACE.

However, science subjects have continued to be performed poorly and according to Odongo, the students still lack practical skills to do experiments, record and interpret their results in subjects like Biology, Chemistry and Physics and this has been attributed to a more theoretical teaching.

The board has also called for much attention  to ICT subjects admitting that some schools are not well equipped with computers which greatly impacts learners on acquiring skills which is a significant influencer on the quality of work they present during examination.
