Israel has launched its largest military assault in the occupied West Bank in over two decades, conducting simultaneous attacks across four key areas. Despite widespread international condemnation, the Israeli military continues its offensive, with deadly consequences. As of Thursday, at least 18 Palestinians have been killed since the operations began, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa. The Israeli military reported the killing of five Palestinian fighters during what it describes as "counterterrorism" operations on the second day of the assault.
The coordinated raids, which began on Wednesday, targeted the northern areas of Jenin, Nablus, Tubas, and Tulkarem, where much of Israel's recent military activity has been concentrated. Armored columns entered refugee camps in Tulkarem, Tubas, and Jenin, intensifying the conflict in these regions. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, through his spokesman Stephane Dujarric, expressed deep concern over the proximity of the Israeli operations to four hospitals, some of which have been surrounded, severely impacting the movement of medical teams. Guterres called for an immediate cessation of the military actions.
In response to the escalating violence, the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Al-Haq, and Al Mezan Center for Human Rights issued a joint statement urging the international community to intervene and take measures against Israel as mandated by international law. The rights groups warned of further violence in the West Bank, drawing parallels to the tactics used by Israeli forces in the ongoing conflict in Gaza, particularly the targeting of hospitals and the use of excessive and indiscriminate force.
