KAMPALA
The High Court Civil Division has scheduled July 7, 2026, to deliver its ruling in a case challenging the suspension of five members of the Kampala Ssese Rotary Club.

The applicants — Nelson Turyatemba, Ronald Samuel Wanda, Gladys Edwards Namala, John Martin Sekwe, and Byamukama Robert — petitioned the court after they were suspended through a letter dated February 14, 2026, signed by the Secretary of the club's Disciplinary Committee.

During the hearing, the applicants' lawyer, Kakuru Tumusiime, argued that the disciplinary action was taken in breach of the principles of natural justice, contending that his clients were denied the right to a fair hearing before the suspensions were imposed.

Tumusiime asked the court to declare the suspensions null and void and order the reinstatement of the five members, arguing that the disciplinary process was unlawful, irregular, and procedurally unfair.

Lawyers representing the Kampala Ssese Rotary Club defended the suspensions, maintaining that the Disciplinary Committee acted within the powers conferred upon it under the club's constitution and internal regulations.

The case has attracted considerable attention within Rotary and civic circles, with many observers closely watching the court's interpretation of due process, procedural fairness, and the autonomy of private associations in enforcing internal disciplinary measures.

The High Court's ruling is expected to determine whether the suspensions were lawful and whether the affected members should be reinstated to the club.
