Rubirizi – Police Force yesterday launched a crackdown on reckless bodaboda (motorcycle taxi) operations after a surge in road accidents. The campaign targets illegal stage practices, drug abuse, over‑speeding, and other risky behaviours that have heightened accident risks in the community.
According to Mr. Twebaze Richard, Officer‑in‑Charge of Traffic Rubirizi, warned bodaboda riders to obey traffic laws, stop using drugs or alcohol while riding, and avoid dangerous maneuvers such as overtaking, self‑driving, and using phone calls which have caused accidents in the community.

He said the rising accident figures in Rubirizi increased to 58 cases this year—are unacceptable, urging riders to change their habits and warning that whoever is caught will be charged. He added that the campaign will enforce strict penalties for violations, especially for riders under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and for those causing public disturbances.

Meanwhile, Afande Twesigye Caleb, Rubirizi Police Liaison Officer, reinforced the message, urging bodaboda operators to protect their riders, adopt a saving culture, and cooperate with authorities to improve community safety. He urged bodaboda riders to build their families by educating their children and stop wasting money on useless things like excessive drinking, alcohol abuse, and prostitution. He noted that police will continue carrying out night operations to ensure crime and road accidents reduce.

Meanwhile, Chairperson Issa Kavuma of Kabete Bodaboda Stage thanked Rubirizi Traffic Police for the sensitization efforts, noting that the campaign has already raised awareness and encouraged riders to follow road rules and report wrongdoers. He urged fellow riders to focus on discipline, work hard and smart, and reduce over‑speeding, illegal stages, and phone use while riding—if not, strict penalties and possible charges will face them.
