Sheema Girls beat record winners Boni Consilii Girls 4–2 on penalties to be crowned champions of the USSSA Ankole Zone U16 Girls Football for the first time in five years. The final, played at Mbarara High School grounds, was a replay of the Ball Games II girls’ football final that was nullified during the games in Rubaare a week ago over allegations that Sheema Girls had fielded ineligible players.Even when the two teams arrived at Mbarara High for the rescheduled final, the match was delayed as Sheema Girls were once again accused of attempting to field ineligible players.

Boni Consilii receive silver medals

This forced the organizing committee, led by Egidio Mucunguzi, to intervene firmly before the game finally kicked off. However, midway through the match, it was discovered that Sheema Girls had again sneaked in unauthorized players, forcing the officials to halt the game and remove the ineligible athletes. Upon resumption, Sheema Girls scored from a direct free kick to take the lead, but Boni Consilii equalized in the dying minutes, forcing the match into a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, Boni Consilii missed twice while Sheema Girls converted all four of their spot kicks to seal the victory and claim their first title in the category. The two schools will be joined by Bweranyangi Girls and Kibingo Girls to represent Ankole at the national event, which kicks off in Tororo this Thursday.
