The year 2026 will go down the memory lane at Masheruka Girls School, Sheema, as a year of strong recovery to greatness, as evidenced by the great achievement in the industry at secondary school competitions level.
The Sheema-based school, which had for years dominated secondary school sports in girls' football, netball, and volleyball, later fell into crippled silence around 2010.

However, with the coming into administration of the current school head, Marion Ashaba, the institution has slowly but steadily realised tremendous achievements at both the zonal and national schools competitions.

First was the silver medal won last year in the national U16 girls' volleyball championship held in Bukedea, and this year, the school teams kicked off a serious push for the podium.
The team emerged champions of the 2026 Sheema district secondary schools athletics championship in the girls' category.

This was followed by the USSSA Ankole zone Futso and beach volleyball titles, and a bronze medal in the girls' handball of the championship held in Ibanda last month.

These achievements were wildly and gladly celebrated at the school, as Ashaba keeps the drive for improved sports participation of the girl child.

"We are glad for the successes achieved so far and we are yet to relent, because we want to win even more at all levels we shall participate. It is important that our students get involved in sports because it helps them think quickly and do well academically, and we are determined to keep supporting them," Ashaba said.

Masheruka Futso, beach volleyball, handball, and athletics teams qualified to represent Ankole at the Uganda secondary schools Ball Games II that commence in Gulu on Wednesday, July 8.
