It was goals galore as the USSSA Ankole Zone Girls’ Football Championship kicked off on Wednesday at St George’s PTC in Ibanda, with favourites registering big wins on the opening day.
However, it was new ace Peace Mudua whose skill attracted attention from fans as defending champions Boni Consilii stretched hosts Peas Aspire with a commanding 5-0 victory.

The national U-17 striker, a new arrival at the Isingiro-based side from Shama High School in Mityana, and who was handed the captain’s armband on the day, showcased her ability by repeatedly dribbling past opponents whenever she got the ball, before slotting home twice.
“I am happy to be here with such a strong team and to have scored on my debut. I am going to work hard to help the team retain the title and qualify for the national championship as the top team in the zone,” said the soft-spoken Mudua.

As Mudua impressed, it was also a special day for Buremba’s Gift Nyamwija, also known as “Haaland,” whose outstanding performance sealed victory for her side.
Nyamwija scored all seven goals as Buremba SS thrashed hosts Ruhoko 7-0. The win not only gave her team a strong start but also placed her at the top of the scorers’ chart with seven goals, putting her in contention for the golden boot.
