Bishop Stuart University (BSU), Mbarara, will be represented by 67 athletes at this year’s edition of the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games, which commence tomorrow, Friday, December 19, at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono. The contingent comprises 18 volleyball players, 16 footballers (men), eight woodball players, and 14 athletics athletes. The team was officially flagged off on Wednesday during a function presided over by the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Mugisha.
The athletes and officials have since safely arrived in Mukono after an early morning road journey.

While addressing the team, Prof. Mugisha emphasized discipline, teamwork, and hard work, urging the athletes to support one another in pursuit of victory.
“A winning team must work hard, support each other, advise and assist one another, be resilient, play to win, and above all, observe maximum discipline. As you go to represent BSU in Mukono, keep this in mind and you will succeed,” Mugisha said.
He pledged continued institutional support for sports and athletes, citing increased study bursaries and support for teams participating in various competitions.

BSU has recorded improved performances in recent editions of university games, particularly in athletics and woodball. Long-distance runner Seth Akampa currently holds the AUUS 10,000m gold and 5,000m silver medals from the last edition, as well as double gold in the same races at the East African University Games in Kisumu last year. The men’s woodball team also holds an AUUS bronze medal.
Uganda Christian University is hosting the 20th edition of the AUUS Games, becoming the first institution in Uganda to host the event four times, having previously done so in 2007, 2013, and 2023, and now in 2025.
The competition brings together athletes from over 30 universities across Uganda, competing in disciplines including football, woodball, volleyball, netball, athletics, basketball, among others.
