Bushenyi - Ishaka Municipality Local Government has named a strong team to represent the region at this year's edition of the National Primary Kids' Athletics Championships, scheduled to take place in Kabale from May 4 to 14. The 20-member team, comprising both track and field athletes, was selected after a municipal competition held on Thursday at Bushenyi Main Grounds.

The one-day event featured young athletes—boys and girls—from the three divisions of Nyakabirizi, Central, and Ishaka. Central Division retained the overall title with 311 points, followed by Ishaka with 233 points and Nyakabirizi in third place with 173 points.

The competition was supervised by Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) official Apollo Musherure. During the event, 13-year-old Annitah Akankwasa from Nyakabirizi demonstrated remarkable bravery by removing her blouse mid-race and running bare-chested to secure second place in the 1500m race.

"The problem with most athletes in Western Uganda is shyness and a high level of timidity, especially among maturing female athletes. But this young girl has proven to be a unique competitor, self-motivated to perform at her best. I will contribute UGX 50,000 for her running kit," said Musherure.
