The Kabaka, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, marks 31 years since his coronation

On Wednesday July 31st, all roads will lead to Saint Paul's Cathedral Namirembe for Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 31st coronation anniversary. This year, the kingdom is holding the anniversary through prayers to thank God for the Kabaka’s improved health. Recently, there has been concern over the Kabaka’s health, with speculation arising from his three-month medical treatment in Namibia. Kingdom Premier Charles Peter Mayiga has faced criticism for not providing detailed updates about the Kabaka’s condition.

Mutebi's absence from public events, such as his annual birthday run, has further fueled rumors. The Dean of Namirembe Cathedral, Can. Jonathan Kisawuzi, said they expect over 10,000 people for the function, which starts at 8 am. The church service and speeches will last two and a half hours, followed by cake cutting outside the cathedral.

Security

Nicholas Kamusiime, the officer in charge at Namirembe Police post, assured the public of tight security. He urged attendees to obey security instructions and avoid carrying heavy luggage.

MPs Call for Unity

Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Buganda region have called for unity among the Baganda, emphasizing the importance of standing together and preserving their cultural heritage. Led by the chairperson of the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus, Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, the legislators made their appeal at a press conference ahead of today’s celebrations. “Our main objective should be to stay united as Baganda,” Kivumbi urged. “Let's focus on the kingdom’s achievements and how we can preserve our culture.” The MPs congratulated the Kabaka on his 31st coronation anniversary and expressed their gratitude to God for his return. They also commended the Buganda kingdom leadership, led by Katikkiro Mayiga, for uniting the people of Buganda and leading in the king's absence.
